A short story published in 2016 as part of the anthology Sudbury Ink – Mother’s Day tells the story of Angela who’s given a Memory Wand by her adult son Leo. A technological gadget that allows it’s users revisit their memories. Angela is resistant to the idea of exploring her past, but eventually her curiosity wins out and she takes a trip down memory lane where she’s forced to confront her past and accept her present.
Angela stood looking over her son’s shoulder. “Is that all there is to it?” It seemed so ordinary, so cheap.

Leo snapped another double “A” battery into place. “Yup, last one. Now all we need to do is calibrate it and press this button.” He pointed a red button with the image of an hourglass on it.
It was about the size of an old fashioned TV remote – the kind that had been common when she was a kid in the 90s. “Are you sure it’s safe?” She took the device in the palm of her hand, holding it as if it might explode
